The Flensburg Glacier Spring.

The Purest Soul Of A Glacier.

Abstract

The delicious taste of our FLENS also has to do with the crystal-clear water we use to make the pilsner. Find out where this water comes from in this article.

The brewing water at our Flensburg brewery comes from our Flensburg glacial spring, which was formed during the last ice age 10,000 years ago when Scandinavian glaciers covered the whole of northern Germany. As they melted, they left behind the deep layers of rock that have protected the crystal-clear, natural water from environmental pollution for several thousand years. The Flensburg Glacier Spring is located directly beneath our brewery.

The water bubbles up from the two wells, which are up to 240 meters deep, artesian, i.e. under its own power. Both wells are entered in the well register under the names Flensburger Gletscherquelle 1 and Flensburger Gletscherquelle 2. We draw around 330 million liters of water per year from these wells to make our Flensburg products. The requirements of the German Purity Law for water quality correspond to the Drinking Water Ordinance.

As “natural mineral water”, the water from our Flensburg Glacier Spring also meets the strictest requirements of the German Mineral and Table Water Ordinance before it is used as brewing water.

It is only natural that this delicious water is not only used to brew beer in Flensburg, but that some of it is bottled in its own swing-top bottles to quench the thirst of a growing number of fans.

Water Quality And The German Purity Law.

The German Purity Law of 1516 states that the water used to brew beer must be of drinking water quality. Accordingly, the requirements for brewing water are high. We are proud that the water from our Flensburg glacier spring is not only of drinking water quality as “natural mineral water”, but also meets the strictest requirements of the German Mineral and Table Water Ordinance. Because the quality is crucial for the taste of the beer. After all, beer consists largely of water. However, the water we draw from the Flensburg glacier spring is not only used as brewing water, for example to produce the mash for our beer. We also use the water from the glacier spring as process water, for example to clean our swing-top bottles with crystal-clear, natural water.

What Else Do We Use The Water From The Flensburg Glacier Spring For?

It's obvious that we don't just use this delicious water from the Flensburg Glacier Spring to brew our beer due to its excellent drinking water quality. That's why we also use it to fill our swing-top bottles with mineral water to quench the thirst of a growing number of fans. This is how our Flensburg water was created. This is mixed with sparkling carbon dioxide so that a sonorous and typical FLENS plop' can be heard when our mineral water is opened.
