The North Sea and Baltic Sea are heavily polluted with plastic waste. Every year, 11 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans, and pollutants remain in the Baltic Sea for a particularly long time due to the low water exchange. According to estimates, up to 18,000 plastic particles per square meter float on the sea surface, but only a fraction of them remain visible. The rest sinks or is washed up on our coasts. Every year, up to 100,000 sea animals and a million seabirds die. Microplastics also build up in the food chain and can even reach us humans.
Our miles of sandy beaches are the hallmark of Schleswig-Holstein and must be protected and preserved. At the same time, they are the destination of millions of vacationers, whose stay we want to make as pleasant as possible.

A Clean Deal: For Every Flens Sold, 1 m² Of Beach Is Cleaned.
For every Flensburger bottle with a clean-up label, 1 m² of beach will be cleaned. Starting in July, you will once again find these labels on FLENS bottles in stores. We support participating tourism organizations in cleaning beaches by providing manpower, equipment, and donations, ensuring clean beaches in Schleswig-Holstein year after year.
The FLENS BeachTech.
We are particularly proud of our first beach cleaning vehicle. Quiet and equipped with hydrostatic all-wheel drive, the FLENS BeachTech combs the beaches along the coast, leaving them spotlessly clean. No cigarette butts, glass or shell fragments, plastic bottles or flotsam escape its relentless appetite for trash. What remains are clean beaches for satisfied vacationers and unspoiled nature.
